What’s in a week?

Apparently A LOT. It’s amazing what you can get done when you have a plan. Someone recently said “You have to have an affection for your business as well as your art.” At first I wasn’t quite sure how to apply that. Now I think I get it. I have approached every step forward this last week with an affection I didn’t have before. Instead of getting mired down the by the not so fun stuff … I actually found myself getting excited about all the details. I took a different perspective on things and it really opened up an entirely different world.

When I spend time photographing someone, I like to spend time on the details. I want to capture (for lack of a better word) the details of who they are and what I think makes them beautiful. I try to portray that in my art.  I think when you care about anything you don’t just rush through to the end. You take time and care from beginning to end. This week has been a marathon but a methodical one. I’ve been loving working on the details of getting this business off the ground. It’s been quite a week.

My favorite day of this last week was Thursday. I got to meet some of the most awesome people recently. I have been portfolio building and I got to shoot a couple shoot. We had such a good time and I walked away feeling so good about the time I spent with them. I was asked to photograph their family on Thursday before the eldest daughter went away on a mission. I had this idea that I would be photographing all these intimate moments of them interacting with each other. It ended up just being hilarious. They were such a happy, gregarious, and loving family. I spent some time with their images this weekend and it was hard not to smile the entire time.

Here are a couple of my favorites (even though I decided I’m against sneak peeks … I can’t help myself)

Don’t they make you want to smile too?

    1. You are so very welcome. I’m so in love with your family. I hope to raise children who grow up to be as wonderful as yours!

      P.S.

      Check your e-mail!!!

  2. Kel, these are truly amazing! I can’t believe how you can capture people. I still remember the daisy photo and how great that was, at the beginning of this journey. Look where you are now! Sign me up for a family photo op. As William would say, “I’d pay top dollar in a good restaurant for this!”

He’s usually referring to my cooking but I’ll apply it to your photos!

PS: when I get a book deal you can do my book jacket photo!
