What a difference a day makes!

Last night the rain came pouring down. I’m sure you’re thinking: “It’s Washington”. Well this time of year it’s a real struggle for me. I grew up in NY. I’m used to a cold, wintery, sunshiny type day this time of year. Spring would just now be breaking through. Here, sure everything stays green year round but the sky is gray and the rain falls. Last night there was a deluge and as my son ran around a soccer field, I sat in my car. The rain curtain of privacy was lowered and I was seriously tempted to just take a nap. The weather being what it was, I just could not get motivated to do more than sleep. I instantly got frustrated with myself and the rain. I hate rain. It makes everything so dark and dreary. I spent the hour and a half writing in a notebook.

THINGS I’D LIKE TO BE WHEN I GROW UP

I know, I’m 30. My son tells me everyday. Green hair extensions for a 30 year old Mom on the PTSA is apparently embarrassing. I figure, I have plenty of time before that old age mentality hits. I’m thinking 90 will be when I really start to act my current age. 😉 I scratched that out and then wrote:

MY GO TO GRAB YOUR HAPPINESS GUIDE

I made a list of what brings me joy now and what I think will bring me joy in the future. I figure, when I’m in a poor mood thanks to crummy weather, mistakes in laundry, dog incidents or BILLS  … I’ll just grab my trusty list and find something on there that I can do or think of to make me smile. Maybe I’ll get it laminated. Laminating things makes me happy. Don’t ask.

I woke up this morning and before I left my bedroom (in the dark thanks to a still sleeping spouse) I thought of three things that will bring me joy. My Mom is coming in the fall with us to Hawaii. Man, I love my Mom! I get to go spend a morning in Barnes & Noble. I’m returning a book and getting Joe McNally’s “The Moment It Clicks”. If all else fails? Must go to either Panera or The Stilly Coffee House for some Hot Chocolate.

I got downstairs and what did I find? The sun was shining. Maybe it’s a bit chilly and maybe the sun was shining through some cloudy skies but it shone nonetheless. I love it when things work out.

Cheers!
